the paradox of our age

today i just want to share with you a phantastic piece of writing that i found on Lily's blog. it is one of the most inspiring texts i have read in a long time and i thought you might like it too. i'll be back soon with outfit posts and other stuff, one more day to go for my dissertation!

"The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees, but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgment; more experts, yet more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space, but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion; big men and small character; steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes, but more divorce; fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete.
Remember, spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember to say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side. Remember to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent. Remember to say "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.

i know it's cheating if you don't post pictures of yourself on your blog, but you have to understand that my time is too limited right now, i'm working on my dissertation day and night...  so instead i want to tell you about jack sparrow (pirates of the caribbean) and how he inspires me fashionwise. he's just always so dirty yet stylish... i love his eye makeup, haha. and i'm soooo into chunky rings with stones and skulls right now, as soon as i hand in my paper i will order some online :)

have a nice evening

cheers!

like i'm the only girl in the world.

i know it's not cool to like rihanna anymore, but i l.o.v.e. her style and her music, and she gave me the inspiration to cut my hair almost 2 years ago. i simply like that she constantly redefines herself and has the courage to look stupid sometimes, too. but sometimes this leads to phenomenal photos, like this one i found on Adela and Tessie. the dress is decorated with LPs! how cool is that?!

cheers!

shoes.

buffalo

jeffrey campbell

i'm thinking about getting one of these... what do you think? i know, it's sooo blogger and i usually hate these trends that seem only to spread across the "blogosphere". but i like these litas so much! the buffalo ones are kinda great though, too. i like the gold detail at the back but i don't quite like the peep toe thing going on... oh well, i'll have to wait for at least one more week till i get my monnneey. i'm very proud of myself, i haven't bought a single piece of clothing since i promised myself not to (edit: just noticed that was only 9 days ago, hahahaaa) :) so yay me! ok, gotta go to my desk,

cheers!

i was meant to tread the water, but now i've gotten in too deep

hello my dear readers! i really have to hurry up if i want to finish my paper in time for next friday so today i won't give you an outfit post but instead i want to show you the things i am surrounded by right now. i don't really leave my desk (only if i need to replace a candle or if i have to make some more tea)... besides, an outfit post would be more than boring, cause today i just threw on a pair of black jeans and a white tee. wish me luck and till tomorrow!

cheers!

i like to move it move it.

today i'm wearing my supercomfy jumper i got in peru. i like to buy clothing and accessories when travelling, like that i can wear a memory of that place. for example, the watch is from new york, the wooden bracelet with the religious motives is from buenos aires, the leather bands are from bangkok, the blue chunky ring is from dubai and the two shorter necklaces are also from buenos aires, where i spent 4 months in 2010.
everytime i wear the jumper i am reminded of machu picchu, where i had an awesome time!

what places did you travel to? what memories do you bring with you? i'm late for my work on the bachelor thesis, so i have to go now. have a beautiful day, guys!

cheers!

PS: sorry for the wrinkled shirt, i just noticed that after i had taken the pictures and oh well, i'm not going on a date or job interview today, so who cares...

cheers!

when you say nothing at all.

20 readers!

Thank you guys!

hey seoul sister.

before christmas, me and my boyfriend visited his sister who lives in seoul, south korea. we only spent 2 days there and then went on to bangkok, but i took some nice pictures there and i want to share them with you. my impression of korea is that it is very similar to germany - only a thousand times as crowded. but it is a very civilized country (what does "civilized" even mean?!) and it was awfully cold there, so that reminded me of home. but there are sooo many people everywhere, constantly bumping into you and blocking the seats in the subway... but i still liked it just for the sake of the experience. i love travelling and seeing new things and places, and after all the food is so interesting! on the first evening, we went to a korean BBQ place, where you have a little grill in the middle of your table, and you grill your meat and then roll it into leaves together with al sorts of other delicacies and eat the leaf just like a wrap! and the eat sushi by the roll, without cutting the slices! so, here are some impressions of south korea's capital.

oh, and forgive me if it's too many pictures, i just couldn't pick less... just klick on "more..." at the bottom of the post to see all of the pictures!)

you sippin' just a little too slow for me.

first day of classes today! i'm heading off to uni now, and will spend the whole day there working on my dissertation doing NOTHING and hating myself for it in between classes... yay! i am wearing a watch i bought in thailand in december, and it is still set on thai time. i don't quite know why, but i like to be remembered of my last holidays everytime i look at the watch and calculate the german time :)

cheers!

she acts like summer and walks like rain.

did you all have anice weekend? i did, even though saturday was quite exhausting - my dad and his wife moved to an apartment on the second floor and they have really heavy furniture. but in the evening i celebrated our 3 years anniversary with my boyfriend, so that was a nice ending for the day. 3 years. makes me feel old, ha.
on the pictures i am wearing a cat eye mask aroung my waist, because i bought it and never quite knew how to wear it. and a belt seems like a good everyday solution. it's very hard not to buy stuff, because almost every blogger i follow constantly gets so nice and pretty things that inspire me and make me wanna shop till my feet hurt or something. but oh well, if i want to go to singapore for an internship in summer i will have to save some money...
i discovered this relatively old album "drops of jupiter" by train. they are the band that landed the hit "hey soul sister" in 2010, you know? the make good music! especially the song"missisippi" is so sad and beautiful... i am spending the evening listening to music and telling myself that i am starting to have a HUGE problem with finfishing my bachelor thesis in time, i have like 12 days left and a LOT of work to do... hate it! my last semester of university starts tomorrow and i have to say i am kinda happy about it. finally something to do and a structure for my day, after almost 2 months of doing basically nothing. sounds odd, but i enjoy having some reason to get up in the morning.

cheers!
